Rockhampton’s mighty Fitzroy River has been chosen to host rowing at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. As plans progress in the lead-up to the game we expect a number of infrastructure projects to commence, to support the large number of athletics, spectators, officials and media covering this historic occasion.

Home to the CQ Capras QRL side, Browne Park is currently in the first stage of a major redevelopment to improve the facility and attract larger sporting and cultural events. Current works include the construction of a 3,500 seat grandstand, new changerooms and public amenities, food and beverage outlets, media and coaching facilities, corporate and function areas, offices and broadcast facilities.

Construction on Gracemere High School is expected to begin in 2026, supporting what was once one of the fastest growing towns in Australia and today remains a key growth area for the Rockhampton Region. Construction will be completed in stages, and doors will open for students in Years 7 and 8 from 2028.

The Gogango Feedlot and Fertiliser Facility, west of Rockhampton, is expected to create around 500 direct and indirect jobs during construction. Once complete it will turn over more than 125,000 head of cattle annually while repurposing manure into fertiliser. The facility is expected to contribute $31.1 million to the Rockhampton Region's economy. 

The Mount Morgan Pipeline is an $88 million dollar project, providing Mount Morgan with a safe and secure water source for the future and encouraging future growth and investment in the area. The 28 kilometre pipeline runs from a new reservoir being built at Gracemere, and supports around 50 jobs during construction. In addition to the pipeline itself, the project also includes upgrades to Razorback Road to improve safety for local residents and freight.

Mount Morgan’s historic gold mine will reopen in 2026, generating new economic opportunities and jobs for the Mount Morgan district. With construction wrapping up on the $150 million project, efforts are beginning to maximise local employment and fill 150 ongoing jobs.

More than $7 billion of renewable energy projects are either planned for, or under construction, in the Rockhampton Region. The region's existing energy workforce and infrastructure has seen strong investment in renewable energy projects from both the private and public sectors.

Rockhampton Hospital Mental Health Unit

Construction has begun on an expansion of the Mental Health Unit at Rockhampton Hospital. Once complete in 2026, the $92 million project will include 32 beds, therapy spaces, indoor gardens. The expansion will also create administrative support spaces, increase office space and new undercover parking.

Rockhampton Hospital Cardiac Hybrid Theatre

Planning is underway for the delivery of a $36.9 million Cardiac Hybrid Theatre to be constructed at Rockhampton Hospital. Construction on the new service is expected to be complete by 2026, with 78 full-time jobs to be created during construction.

The facility will include the Cardiac Hybrid Theatre, a procedure room, recovery bays and inpatient beds with an expanded Cardiac Investigations Unit and office space. The upgrade will increase locally available cardiac services to include coronary angiograms, coronary stents and pacemaker implantations.

Work is well underway on the $1.9 billion Rockhampton Ring Road which runs from the Capricorn Highway to Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road, reducing travel times for freight and vehicles, improving connectivity to industrial areas in Gracemere and Parkhurst, and bypassing more than a dozen traffic lights in Rockhampton.

Constructed on the grounds of CQUniversity and in proximity to fast growing suburbs, the Rockhampton Sports Precinct will become the new home of netball in Rockhampton. Stage 1 of the project is supported by $47 million in Queensland Government funding and will include the construction of 16 outdoor netball courts, clubhouse, changerooms, amenities, parking, upgraded roads and intersections, and new parklands.

Utilising Queensland Government funding, Advance Rockhampton is leading community engagement during the development of a business case to unlock new irrigation opportunities for the South Yaamba Agricultural Precinct. Already supporting thriving local businesses, additional irrigation would allow for the diversification of farming operations and improve water reliability for nearby farms.

Stage 2 of the TAFE Centre of Excellence will be built at CQUniversity’s North Rockhampton campus from 2026 to 2028. The $61.1 million stage will deliver training for key trades and vocational study areas and is the latest addition to the overall Centre of Excellence precinct which can support up to 800 additional VET positions.
