Clubs and Community Groups
There is a great deal of satisfaction that comes from making a difference to people in your local community. With a region of over 87,000 residents, you’re sure to find a club or group that meets your interests.
Here’s a small collection of clubs, groups and associations within the region. Don’t despair though if you can’t find something you’re looking for – Google is here to help!
- All rounders – You might already be a member of a Lions or Rotary club , so it’s as simple as now choosing which one to go to in the region! You may also like to look into opportunities with the Red Cross, QCWA, Zonta, RSL, the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, Saint Vincent de Pauls, Uniting Care or the Rockhampton Regional Council (Zoo, Visitor Information Centre, Libraries, Rockhampton Art Gallery or Rockhampton Heritage Village).
- Seniors – Senior Citizens Clubs and pensioners leagues are regularly hosted in Rockhampton at Bauhinia House and Schotia Place. The Rockhampton’s U3A (University of the third age) community provides fun educational, creative, leisure activities provided by members themselves.
- Sports – The sporting world in the region is your oyster. You’ll find competitions and fixtures in hockey, soccer, touch football, rugby league, union, swimming, netball, swimming, AFL, tennis, golf, cricket, squash and basketball for young and old. - Arts and crafts – There’s quite a variety of local craft groups in pockets of the region, and with chats with local shop owners you should find your niche, or visit Google. If you are looking for structured groups, visit the Walter Reid Cultural Centre or the Rockhampton Art Gallery . You might even get some inspiration here.
