Capricornia Correctional Centre Expansion

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) has launched a major recruitment drive and are looking to recruit up to 700 Queenslanders, including 232 in Rockhampton.

With the expansion of Capricornia Correctional Centre in Rockhampton coming online in 2020 – 2021, QCS is aiming to recruit 232 new officers to staff the centre and join the front line of public safety.

Successful candidates are paid while they undergo a rigorous  10-week training course to teach them the required skills necessary to work at the front line of public safety. This includes correctional centre practices and behaviour management, safety, situational awareness and communication and de-escalation techniques.

The most important attribute QCS looks for is people who are committed to keeping the community safe, but also those with good communication skills and a desire to change people’s lives for the better while working to make the community a safer place.

The Capricornia Correctional Centre expansion will help to provide a safer environment for officers and prisoners, and following last year’s $41 million investment announcement by the Government into Capricornia Correctional Centre, a total of 348 new cells and 396 new beds will be delivered.
