In Central Queensland, Federal Government projections to 2022 show that in addition to the 15,100 existing jobs, 4,400 extra jobs will be needed for the Health Care and Social Assistance industry. The Rockhampton Region is well-positioned to accommodate most of that growth, and we actively encourage industry investment in all areas of the health sector.
Medical Services
The Rockhampton Region offers world class medical facilities spread across our 3 public and private hospitals, housing 500+ beds and teams of specialists and allied health professionals. The Rockhampton Base Hospital is also a major teaching hospital with linkages to CQUniversity and University of Queensland. Rockhampton is also home to the University of Queensland’s Rural Clinic School and James Cook University’s Generalist Medical Training Program.
Over 25 medical centres offer a mix of bulk billing and private doctors throughout the region for general medical care, as well as a 24 hour house call doctor service. With projected growth, these facilities will pave the way for future health services to build upon the solid foundations already in place.
Allied Health Services
A full selection of allied health services are available in our Region offering professional treatment in Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Oral Health, Speech Pathology, Mental Health, Nutrition, Dietetics and more.
In addition to many private practices, the CQUniversity Rockhampton Health Clinics provide a range of services including physiotherapy, oral health, podiatry and occupational therapy. It’s completely open to the public, providing valuable services to the community, and CQUni’s health students who gain valuable practical experience.
Aged Care Residential Services
Central Queensland has an overall older population than the Queensland average, according to 2016 State statistics. The aged care sector is one of Australia’s largest and fastest growing service industries, employing over 350,000 people, with the Australian Government expected to spend $17.4 billion in 2016-17.
In order to further support expansion in the sector, Council is currently actively welcoming opportunities to attract ‘high rise’ and other innovative models of developing and expanding aged care and allied health facilities in the Region’s key centres.
