Friendship City: Huizhou, China
Huizhou is the second city to city relationship Rockhampton Regional Council has established with China. Mayor Margaret Strelow signed a Friendship Agreement with Huizhou officials on the 26 November 2018.
In the short time since establishing the relationship, both cities have identified many ways to collaborate, complement and provide mutual benefits including; Economic Development, Agriculture, Education, Tourism, Culture and Arts.
Huizhou City is looking to work with Rockhampton Regional Council specifically on developing mutually beneficial salt water aquaculture industry, creating smart greenhouse technologies and exploring research and development opportunities with local institutions.
Huizhou is a city in southeast Guangdong Province, China. With a population of 4.78 million residents, Huizhou is considered a first tier city by Chinese standards and is the second largest city following the city of Guangzhou, the capital city of Guangdong Province. Guangdong Province is the most affluent region in China with the population of 105 million. There is a strong focus for the city to develop the petro-chemical, industrial chemical, heavy industry, and nuclear energy industries.
The city manufactures 70 per cent of Apple's touch screen and electronic control systems as well as 1 out of every 8 mobile phones in the world. Forty percent of fresh food leaving China for Hong Kong goes via the Huizhou Port.
Huizhou is a picturesque city located in the coastal area of the South China Sea, adorned by green hills, clear water and social harmony. It is truly an attractive forest city, naturally composed of mountains, lakes, rivers and springs. The importance of the Huizhou location comes from Chin a’s Great Bay Area, which can connect Guangzhou, Hong Kong and Macau, and potentially Shenzhen.

Natural landscapes and modern commercial prosperity interact here in Huizhou, reflecting a balance between economic growth and environmental protection.
