Transport & Logistics
Well established road, rail, sea and air infrastructure
Rockhampton Region is the transport hub for Central Queensland. Our infrastructure and transport networks stand ready to deliver fast, smooth movement of freight whether by road, rail, sea or air.
Rockhampton is located at the junction of the Bruce, Capricorn, Burnett and Leichhardt Highways. Rockhampton is 615 kilometres north of Brisbane and 110 kilometres north of Gladstone. Mackay is 335 kilometres to the north and Emerald is 270 kilometres to the west.
The North Coast Rail Line runs through Rockhampton providing access to both freight and passenger services north and south of Rockhampton serviced by two intermodal rail container terminals, while the Central West lines travel through Blackwater and Emerald, reaching out to Longreach and Winton, 780km to the west.
Our established infrastructure is anchored by two international class seaports and three strategic airports. The Port of Gladstone and Port Alma Shipping Terminal lie within 3 hours or less access by road or rail from any point in the region. The Port of Gladstone is one of Australia’s finest natural deep-water harbours and is Queensland's largest multi-commodity port, handling over 30 different products with a total throughput of more than 100 million tonnes per annum. Port Alma Shipping Terminal, on the southern tip of the Fitzroy River delta, has 3 wharf facilities and handles over 225,000 tonnes annually.
Need the fastest possible freight logistics? Your high-value and time-sensitive airfreight can be in Brisbane within one to two hours of lift-off from Rockhampton, Gladstone or Emerald Airports. Rockhampton Airport (ROK) is a major Australian regional airport 5km from the city centre, owned and managed by Rockhampton Regional Council. Aside from regular commuter movement, the airport can accommodate the largest cargo planes, and is regularly used by Australian, American and Singaporean Army personnel utilising Antonov 124-100 and C130 freighters to move large military equipment.
Our transport industries and logistics infrastructure are serviced by industrial areas on both ends of the city. For more information on the industrial opportunities available in the region, visit our Industrial Opportunities page.
